Private Parties are Good Business

Once you’ve been at the helm of your English bar for a while, you will get regulars and sometimes people that you’ve never had in your bar before, asking you to quote them for a private party.

These events are always very profitable and there are several different formats that can be offered from your point of view.

The Children’s Party or Disco

Always try to get the parents to organise the cake as it saves you rushing around before the start of the party. My advice is to keep the party short 2-3 hours max and charge a fixed price for the exclusive use of your bar and the drinks and food that you intend to lay on. Don’t be cheap, as it’s a lot of work looking after children and cleaning up once they’ve gone.

Adult Parties

Private Party in Spanish BarAdult parties are more profitable, as they involve both booze and a longer time span. Whereas with the children’s party you dedicate your bar for 2-3 hours, with adults they’ll want to have the exclusive use of your bar, typically from 12:30 – 3: 30 for a lunchtime celebration and for an evening party, they’ll want to use your bar from say 8 pm – 1 am.

From the client’s point of view they may want to do a fancy dress party or a stag do, bringing in an outside entertainer or stripper-gram or whatever.

For an adult party give a quote for beer, wine and spirits and food and stipulate that any cocktails will be charged as extras, and have to be paid separately when served.

Quoting

Never be cheap, as you will be worked off your feet, may get a few broken glasses, especially on a stag night and don’t forget that you’ll be loosing your regular trade whilst the party is taking place.

In our pizzeria we maintain the carry out service on pizzas, burgers, kebabs etc, even though we have a party in full swing.

Lastly! You’ll make a nice profit, but make sure you have one or two extra staff, so that people get quick service.

Good luck with your parties!
