- Don’t drink too much whilst you are working. If you were to take every drink that the customers offer you, you wouldn’t get through the day.
- Always say thank you when a customer offers to buy you a drink, but only accept about half of them and that sets a happy medium.
- When offered, don’t have them buy you an expensive drink, this would make you appear a little greedy. You don’t have to ask for example for a gin and tonic every time a customer invites you. Sometimes just have a shot of gin or a bottle of tonic and sometimes politely turn down the invitation.
- Don’t make the mistake of trying to keep up with a crowd of heavy drinkers who keep inviting you to join them for one. If you are in this situation with really heavy people, you just have to pour the drink out, but actually drink just tonic water leaving the other drink under the bar.
Remember you are working and responsible for everybody’s welfare, so you have to stay sober, so that you can deal with any situation as it arises.
