Maintaining Your Bar In Spain

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

When running a bar you are always going to have things that need maintaining or repairing. Some of these things will be small and you will be able to repair them yourselves, but for others you’ll need to call someone in.

It will save you a lot of money each year, if you do most of the maintenance and running repairs yourself.  Sometimes you’ll have no choice but to call in an engineer say to repair the air-con or a fridge motor, but there are loads of things that it’s best to learn to do for yourself if you don’t want to be giving your profits away to maintenance companies.

Just to give you some idea, here’s a list of things that we do ourselves, followed by a list of things that we have to call people in to do:

Things you can do yourself:

  • Repair/replace toilet flush.
  • Vacuum out the dust that blocks the radiator in each of your fridges.
  • Change light bulbs and light fittings.
  • Change taps.
  • Connecting speakers and illuminated signs.
  • Changing broken locks.
  • Unblocking the jets on the gas grille.
  • Replacing the regulators on the gas bottles.
  • Minor repairs to coffee machine i.e. changing washers etc.
  • Redecorating.

Things you’ll need to pay someone to do:

  • Clean extractor filter.
  • Repair broken down fridges/freezers.
  • Major electrical alterations.
  • Major plumbing additions.
  • Glazing.

We always find as many tradesmen as possible from amongst our own clients. That way we get a lot of jobs done in exchange for meals or at very friendly prices.
