To Smoke or Not to Smoke- Bar Restaurant (Spain)
To Smoke or Not to Smoke in Your Bar Restaurant . Which is Best?
Spain is great in this respect, as you as the bar owner can choose between two alternatives:
- Customers are allowed to smoke on your premises
- Customers are not allowed to smoke on your premises
You choose what is good for your business and then you are obliged to display a sign, which clearly states which option you are employing.
We allow people to smoke in our restaurant, as a lot of people in Spain are smokers and to ban the act would mean less trade.
If you allow people to smoke inside your bar, then children are not permitted to enter. This doesn’t present a problem to us, as families can eat and drink on the terrace. This is one of the advantages to running a bar in an area as sunny and warm as Southern Spain.
Once again we see how vital it is to have a big fully enclosable terrace like the one we have.
As an aside to this topic – we run a pizzeria and even though it’s January, we are quite busy both on the terrace and doing take-aways. We do high quality fast food (pizza, home made burgers and kebabs), and these sell all year round. The only time we would experience reduced trade is during the Christmas period and we choose to close at that time of year.
The picture was taken here in Southern Spain yesterday, I hope it gives you an idea why it is possible to have people sitting on your terrace in January!
